I try not to be snooty about films, Part 2: Grown Ups

There have been Adam Sandler films I have enjoyed. The Wedding Singer is quite a lot of fun, Funny People is good and of course Punch Drunk Love is very impressive. Even Happy Gilmore has its moments. His most recent run of films though have had the most awful reviews. If you add together both Rotten Tomatoes scores for his last two movies, Grown Ups 2, Jack and Jill, it still only totals 10%. Throw in the one before that, That’s My Boy, and it only rises to 30%.

Still, I try not to be snooty about films so when someone gave my daughter a copy of the first Grown Ups film (10%) I thought I’d give it a go.

I managed fifteen minutes, it’s excruciating.

Is this one for the kids?

I saw enough to say no. This is actually why I watched it and the humour is pretty smutty (as well as not being funny). It is a 12A which is probably right and there is a chance a lot of the gags would go over the heads of little ones. It depends if you fancy your kids seeing a guy joke about a guy sticking his finger up another guy’s bum.
