As I have done on this day every year since I started my blog over a decade ago, I am presenting here every new film I have seen this in the last twelve months. In line with previous lists this only includes movies debuting in the UK in 2023 but does, as it has since 2020, include streaming as well as cinema releases. It is also, as always, recorded in order of preference from my favourite to my least favourite.

The top ones have already been discussed in a previous post so I won’t offer any analysis beyond this, other than to briefly mention those from 81 to 91. I have before written in detail about my bottom ten but this year chose not to do this as most of them I still quite liked. Perhaps not Empire of Light or Spy Kids, and definitely not Babylon, but while it is a crime it made more money that the rest of the year’s brilliant animations (see 3, 5 and 12), The Super Maria Bros. Movie is not terrible. All of the others had at least moments I enjoyed.

Anyway, if you are looking for recommendations, anything from 41 up comes with my stamp of approval. Most of them have full reviews on this site somewhere. If you see a * next to a title that means it is available for home viewing so snuggle up on the sofa tomorrow and take your pick. Two ** means it is still in cinemas.
